Set up your Smart Box

From opening the box to your noticeboard running on the big screen takes under 5 minutes. Here is every step, in detail.

Before you start

  • Your SLX Smart Box, with the HDMI cable and power cable that come in the box.
  • A screen or TV with an HDMI input.
  • Internet: an Ethernet cable from your router, or your WiFi name and password.
  • The SLX On Air app on your phone, with Bluetooth turned on, if you’re using WiFi.

Step 1

Connect it to your screen

Plug the HDMI cable into the Smart Box and into your screen. Connect the power cable and switch it on.

Turn the screen to that HDMI input. The Smart Box starts up on its own.

Step 2

Get it online

There are two ways. Use whichever suits your space.

With an Ethernet cable

Plug an Ethernet cable from your router into the Smart Box. That’s it: the box is online, and you can go straight to step 3.

Over WiFi, from the app

  1. Turn on Bluetooth on your phone: the app uses it to find and talk to the Smart Box. Open the SLX On Air app and go to the menu. Tap Setup Device on Android, or Set up display on iPhone.
  2. The app finds your Smart Box and shows a code. Check that it matches the code on your screen, and tap to confirm.
  3. The app lists the WiFi networks the Smart Box can see right now. Pick yours.
  4. Type your WiFi password in the app and tap Connect. The app logs the Smart Box onto your WiFi.

This option only appears for people who manage a noticeboard. If you don’t see it, message us and we’ll check your board is linked to your account.

Step 3

It links itself to your account

As soon as the Smart Box is online, our server links it to your account and to the noticeboard set for it, automatically.

There’s no pairing code and nothing to type. Your board appears on the screen.

Step 4

Check which board it shows

We create your noticeboard for you, so in most cases the Smart Box already knows which board to show.

If your screen isn’t showing a board yet, set it from the web console. Sign in at simplylocalx.com/console with the link we email you (there’s no password), then go to:

Step 5

Post, and watch it appear

Everything you post to your board starts showing on the big screen, from any of these:

  • The SLX On Air mobile app
  • The web console
  • Email, on Pro plan boards: Email to Post
